December 25, 2015 at 0:31:19 Moscow time from the Baikonur cosmodrome, the Proton-M launch vehicle was launched with the next Russian telecommunications spacecraft of the Express-AMU1 heavy class. On January 1, 2016, the satellite was successfully transferred from a geo-transfer to geostationary orbit . Completed work on the disclosure of solar panels. In February, the spacecraft passed flight tests and was put into operation . The high-tech satellite Express-AMU1 is equipped with Ka-band transponders for broadband data transmission in the European part of the Russian Federation.

Ka-band is a range located above the Ku-band. As a rule, for the downlink, frequencies of 18.3-18.8 GHz (B-band) and 19.7-20.2 GHz (A-band) are used, that is, two spectral regions of 500 MHz each.
Together with other devices of the Express-AM series , the new satellite provides coverage in the Ka-band for most of the European territory of Russia and all the southern borders to the Far East. This territory is home to 90% of the population.
