Virgin Galactic to launch 2400 satellites to connect to remote regions Network

Richard Branson, the head of Virgin, announced his company's intention (Virgin Galactic) to launch 2,400 small communications satellites. The goal is to provide residents of remote regions where all other methods of connecting to the network are not possible to connect to the Network.

This project is already the third in a row where the internetization of remote regions is proposed. The first two were offered by Google ( Google Loon ) and Facebook. If at least one of the projects is implemented, many more people will connect to the Internet than they do now.

At the first stage of the project, it is planned to launch 648 communication satellites in order to ensure the normal operation of OneWeb (this company will work with users). It is planned that OneWeb will be able to connect to the Web millions of people who previously had no such opportunity. All satellites will be in low orbit. It is worth noting that Qualcomm will also work with OneWeb, this company has taken on work with regional partners.

OneWeb terminals will work as small access points that will provide access to the Internet via WiFi, LTE, 3G or 2G (everything here depends on the local telecom operator and the frequency spectrum that the operator has the right to work with).

To launch microsatellites, a two-stage LauncherOne rocket, currently being developed by Virgin Galactic, will be used. The launch vehicle will be able to deliver objects with a mass of up to 225 kilograms to a low orbit, and objects with a mass of up to 120 kilograms to a high orbit. In this case, the launch cost in this case will be less than 10 million US dollars.

The main task of the project, as mentioned above, is to provide a wide channel of communication with the Network for residents of remote regions of the planet.
