First photos from the Russian Resurs-P satellite No. 2

On December 26, 2014, from the Baikonur cosmodrome, the Soyuz-2.1b rocket was successfully launched with the Resurs-P experimental Earth remote sensing satellite No. 2. Everything went well, so on January 5, 2015, the first photos began to come in from the satellite.

Last week, adjustment and calibration of equipment continued. Yesterday, Roskosmos posted a new batch of photos online, and here there really is something to see.

Here are some of these frames (the links are originals 2481x1754 px).

It looks almost as beautiful as the night photography of New York from a helicopter at the utmost height, but here the whole planet is in full view.

From the message of the press service of Roscosmos

The equipment placed on the Resurs-P spacecraft No. 2 allows to conduct highly detailed surveys of the earth's surface in the panchromatic and five narrow spectral ranges with a resolution of 1.0 - and 3.0 - 4.0 meters respectively, in a strip 38 km wide; wide-area shooting with a capture range of 97 and 441 km and a resolution of 12.0 and 60.0 m in the panchromatic range; hyperspectral survey in 96 spectral intervals with a resolution of 25 - 30 m.

In addition, Resurs-P No. 2 spacecraft are equipped with automatic vessel identification equipment (AIS) and the Nuklon scientific equipment.

Currently, space imagery materials received from Resurs-P No. 1 spacecraft are used to provide solutions to a wide range of economic, social and scientific tasks in the interests of ministries and departments, federal and regional executive authorities of Russia.

In the framework of the Russian Federal Space Program for the fourth quarter of 2015, the launch of Resurs-P satellite No. 3 is scheduled.
