Briefly about the PhysX SDK

The PhysX SDK routine software allows game developers to avoid writing their own program code to handle complex physical interactions in modern computer games. On July 20, 2005, Sony licensed the PhysX SDK for use in its PlayStation 3 seventh generation gaming console. The PhysX SDK is being actively offered for sale (licensing) to third-party companies, currently more than one hundred games are used.

The PhysX Physics SDK engine consists of three main components for physics processing:

- processing of solids;
- fabric treatment;
- processing of liquids;

On February 13, 2008, NVIDIA acquired Ageia, making the PhysX SDK the property of NVIDIA. PhysX SDK support has been integrated into the CUDA structure, for which there are already many Linux drivers. Thus, the need for a dedicated physical processor PhysX disappeared. PhysX SDK support will be available for all Nvidia video cards starting with the 8xxx series. The PhysX Physics SDK engine is now known as the NVIDIA PhysX SDK.

In March 2008, Nvidia announced that it would make the PhysX SDK an open standard accessible to everyone.

GeForce Experience Pack

By releasing the GeForce Experience Pack, nVidia made it possible even for users of low-end video cards to transfer the physics calculation to video cards. GeForce Experience Pack includes:

- Warmonger — free full game! Destroy walls, floors, and entire buildings to open new paths and close old ones. Destructive power is not just a beautiful element, but a tactical weapon in this amazing action game.
- Unreal Tournament 3 PhysX Mod Pack — includes three cards with amazing effects that fundamentally change the game environment.
- A brief overview of the upcoming gaming online service Nurien social network based on Unreal Engine 3 (with built-in performance evaluation program)
- A brief overview of the upcoming game Metal Knight Zero (with built-in performance evaluation program)
- NVIDIA's The Great Kulu technical demo version demonstrating the use of PhysX technologies in calculating soft bodies in real gaming environments
- NVIDIA Fluid technical demo version - imitation of realistic effects of behavior of various types of liquids.
- New PhysX software drivers for all GeForce 8, GeForce 9 and GeForce GTX 200 series GPUs. This new driver also supports PhysX functions calculated by the GPU in the affordable Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 game.
