Karel Čapek was born in Austria-Hungary, now the Czech Republic, and at the age of 14 he began to write, publishing in a local newspaper, often resorting to the help of his brother Joseph. In 1936, Karel Čapek became a Nobel Prize nominee for literature, and in 1935 he was promoted to the post of President of the International PEN Club by HG Wells. The work of čapek was banned in Czechoslovakia because of his views on politics: he did not sympathize with communism. Like fascism.

Capek died of pneumonia at the age of 48 in 1938. After death, the writer came to the house of the Gestapo, but Capek's wife hid the archive.

RUR - Rossum Universal Robots

In 1920, the science fiction play RUR was written, first shown in January 1921 in Prague. The plot of the play unfolds in the factory for the production of "Robots", which are somewhat different from our current concept of them: in the play we talk about artificial people made of flesh and blood, created from other substances.

Initially, Karel Čapek called these people “laboratories” from the Latin word “labor” - “work”. After discussing this term with my brother, Josef Čapek, it was decided to name them from the Czech word “robota” - “hard labor” or “hard work”. The film raises the question of the fairness of the exploitation of such people and shows a scenario - the destruction of humanity by “robots” capable of thinking.

The play was filmed in 1956 and 1948 . Even earlier, in 1938, the movie Robot Girl No. 1 was made based on it.
