Recently, the Russian Academy of Sciences
announced a competition for medals with prizes for young scientists and students of Russian universities. “Scientific papers (work cycles), materials on the development or creation of instruments for scientific research, methods and technologies contributing to the development of scientific knowledge, distinguished by originality in the formulation and solution of scientific problems” are put forward for consideration. Applications and works are accepted until July 1, 2016. The size of the premium for young is 50 thousand rubles. (for young scientists) and 25 thousand rubles. (for students).
It would seem great news. The current
rules for participation in the competition , which have not changed since 2002, are slightly embarrassing.
The Regulations on Medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences with awards for young scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, other institutions, organizations of Russia and for students of higher educational institutions of Russia indicated that a
3.5-inch diskette should be attached to each work.
')
Clause 3.8 of the clause states that “works that are not completed in the established manner are not considered”.
Maria Prostova, a staff member at the Institute of Poliomyelitis,
drew attention to the outdated competition rules. She quotes the relevant paragraphs of the provision:
"3.5. Each work put forward for the RAS Medal with a prize for students must be attached in two copies:
...
3.5.4. One 3.5 "floppy disk with a TITUL.DOS file in the WORD-6 editor containing the following information:
...
3.8. Works not executed in the prescribed manner, are not considered. "
In duplicate ... one floppy disk. DISKET, Karl.
Not everyone will be able to participate in the competition ...
Indeed, not everyone today has a 3.5 "floppy disk and floppy drive.
It is also worth noting that the version of the editor Word-6 was released in 1993.
PS Last year, a separate regulation was adopted “
On the 2015 competition for the medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences with awards for young scientists of Russia and for students of higher educational institutions of Russia for the best scientific work ”, according to which other data carriers were allowed to use: “electronic media (3.5 ”floppy disk, CD-ROM, flash card, memory card) with a TITUL.DOC file in the WORD-6 editor; WORD-97-2003). Perhaps the same rules will be introduced in 2016.
PPS A member of the press service of the Russian Academy of Sciences
refuses the obligatory requirement to provide information on diskettes. He assures that modern computers are installed in the Russian Academy of Sciences: “We work the same way as you use modern equipment,” the press service said.
