Microsoft Research calls for becoming a fan of XIM

XIM is a new cross-platform photo sharing service. And to be more precise, for sharing (remote) viewing of these same photos.

HIM is available as an application for Lumia and for smartphones on WP8.1 as a whole, as well as for other devices with iOS and Android on board. The service supports working with a number of popular "connected" digital media players. But first things first.

At first glance it may seem that XIM is such an interpretation of Snapchat from Microsoft. Yes, the service is designed to securely send images to other users. Yes, the images themselves are only available for a certain time period. Still, the concept of the service from Microsoft is different - remote demonstration of a series of snapshots in real time.

The principle of the service is as follows: the user creates a session, notes in the photo gallery and selects contacts of people with whom you would like to share them. At the same time, the presence of an installed XIM application is not necessary at all for sharing: users can join a session through a browser client, after receiving a link in an SMS or via email.

The Microsoft cloud is responsible for synchronizing actions, storing data and authorizing XIM users. It ensures smooth operation of the service and a wide range of supported devices.

It is noteworthy that each of the users connected to the session can take control over the view and control the switching and zooming as he pleases. In this case, all changes will be instantly reflected in other screens.

In addition, the possibility of commenting is available to all users (the history of the correspondence, as well as the photos themselves, are annihilated after the session is completed) and saving the photos to your phone.

Owners of Lumia smartphones (however, as well as owners of devices on other OS) can broadcast images on Xbox One and Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick media players. Moreover, in this case it does not matter whether the user is the author of the session or not - each participant can connect external devices to the broadcast.

Another important point is that the XIM application can take pictures not only from the internal memory of the smartphone, but also from OneDrive and Dropbox cloud storage, as well as from Instagram and Facebook.
