Tesla will release Roadster 3.0

Experience in working on Model S helped to create a new model.

In its official blog, Tesla announced plans to release an electric car Roadster 3.0.

The main improvements relative to previous models are three: a battery, aerodynamics and tires.

Yesterday, Ilon Musk mentioned an increase in battery capacity. In Roadster 1.0, a lithium battery was used for electric vehicles for the first time, and for its time it was a great sample. But since 2008, much has changed. The new cell holds 31% more energy, which allows you to store in the same amount of 70 kWh. In the original model, this figure was only 53 kWh.

Roadster 1.0 has a drag coefficient of 0.36. With the use of modern techniques, it was reduced by 15% to 0.31.

Tires of the very first Roadster had a rolling resistance indicator of 11 kg / ton. For Roadster 3.0 tires, this figure is 20% better - about 8.9 kg / ton. This is achieved including work on the bearings and brake system.

Due to all these improvements, model 3.0 will be able to overcome a distance of 640 kilometers on a single charge - 40-50% more than the original Roadster.

On prices and release dates are not reported. It is also unknown whether Roadster 3.0 will be able to charge from the Supercharger station network. For the first time a new car will be shown in early 2015.

Roadster - the first car startup Tesla Motors, it was removed from production in 2012. In terms of conventional fuel, it spends 2 liters per 100 kilometers and has an average efficiency of 88%. The original model can cover 300-400 kilometers per charge.
