Stress from the slow internet, solving mathematical equations and horror films is the same
A six-second delay in loading the video provokes the same reaction as horror films, researchers at Ericsson say. Participants in the experiment were forced to watch video on a smartphone: when the video slows down, the heart rate increases by 38%.
During the experiment, specialists measured the pulse, the level of brain activity and the speed of eye movement in smartphone users who were performing tasks. Participants watched videos with varying degrees of inhibition.
It turned out that 6 seconds of delay in loading the video is enough for the body to react to it as well as to a horror film or mathematical equation, and stronger than when it is on the edge of a cliff in virtual reality. ')
If the operator provides a high-quality and fast connection, Ericsson writes in a report, then it will receive a “positive emotional response and increased involvement”.
The volunteer experiment was conducted in Copenhagen, where the mobile Internet usually works without interruption: in Denmark, the speed of the mobile Internet in 2014 was an average of 22.3 megabits per second, which was the best indicator in the world.
Some other facts from the Ericsson report for the 4th quarter of 2015:
