Volkswagen factory starts using augmented reality technology and smart 3D glasses
After the scandal with exhaust gases with the participation of Volkswagen, the company again got into the news feed, but with positive news. The German car manufacturer decided to introduce the technology of augmented reality and use smart 3D glasses in factory logistics to increase the safety of technological processes. This was announced by the company on its official website . The exact model of glasses and their manufacturer were not indicated, however, based on the appearance on the video and photo, it is noticeable that this technology is very much like Google Glass . New points were presented after a successful three-month test. They are created primarily for those workers who are employed in the packaging of goods and orders.
Smart glasses feature voice and touch control. The largest and oldest Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg has 60,000 employees.
“Digital technologies are increasingly penetrating production. The augmented reality glasses bring the human-computer interaction to a new level, ”said Reinhard de Vries, head of logistics at the Wolfsburg plant.

The company said that the process of introducing new technology is proceeding gradually. Now only 30 workers use smart glasses. If this practice is successful, it is possible that the points will be applied in other divisions.
Such a device can improve efficiency, since it frees the hands of workers, and the built-in camera is able to read bar codes, which will reduce the likelihood of errors.
Large enterprises around the world use augmented reality technology for warehousing.
A similar technology in logistics has already been introduced in DHL. Dominic Maas, the warehouse manager at the company, believes that using these technologies greatly reduces the likelihood of errors and increases productivity.
