Encryption - the road to the bunks.
As you know, encryption tools are widely used in modern software and hardware. However, few people know that Russian laws establish the procedure for the creation and use of such funds, as well as the responsibility for violating this procedure. So, why and what are we facing legislation? Let's start with the "popular" Windows operating system.
As you know, it is widely used cryptographic software, such as CryptoAPI, DRM and others like them. At the same time, users, sellers of this OS, as well as support firms most often did not hear about the licensing of information protection activities [1,2]. In this way:
- companies using the Windows operating system are fined for 300-400 minimum wages (Part 3 of Article 14.1 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation);
- state institutions are fined 100-200 minimum wages (Part 1 of Article 19.20 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation);
- companies selling Windows and installing it on computers are fined 400-500 minimum wage with confiscation of software and computers (Part 2 of Article 14.1 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation), and the directors of these companies are under arrest for 4 to 6 months ( Part 1 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
- Microsoft Inc. also fined with full confiscation of all copies of Windows, and its CEO Steve Ballmer is sentenced to imprisonment for up to 5 years with a fine of 6 months income (Part 2 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
It should be remembered that much of the other popular Microsoft products also use encryption tools. In addition, enterprises that provide hosting on virtually all platforms fall under the punishing sword of justice, since it is difficult to imagine hosting that does not use SSL or MD5 or other cryptographic protocols.
One should not even mention such giants as Samsung, Toshiba, Matsushita, etc., which criminally manufacture and distribute software and hardware complexes for encrypting and decrypting licensed DVDs, that is, DVD players, on the territory of Russia.
In conclusion, it should be noted that in the field of information security tools, we must pay tribute to our government and the president - they provided everything so that the budget of our country should not have problems in the case of criminal intrigues of the IT industry.
