IBM Watson Tone Analyzer helps to make communication between people more efficient.

Read the message and assess its overall tone, the promise - a common thing for a person. But, at times, some of the sent messages may contain several words that change the general tone of the text, making it not what the author planned to do. Can a computer system assess the meaning of various words and the tone / emotion of a message by analyzing the message automatically? It turns out that it can. IBM developers have created a service based on IBM Watson, which is quite capable of helping all those people who often work with text (PR, marketing, communications, etc.).

IBM Watson Tone Analyzer , a service that is currently available only in experimental mode, helps set the overall tone of text communication. This is the latest add-on for the Watson Developer Cloud API and SDK, which is available on Bluemix.

The service uses the principle of linguistic analysis, similar to the principle of IBM Watson Personality Insights. Tone Analyzer analyzes the provided text, and gives an assessment of the emotional and social content reflected in the text. All this can be used to assess personal correspondence, as well as for marketing research, public relations and an automated communication center.

The three key components of the Tone Analyzer can be described as follows:

Emotional coloring : the emotions of people described in literature and familiar to us from childhood include anger, fear, expectation, surprise, joy, sadness, trust, and disgust. Service developers have created a model for evaluating emotions in the text. Tone Analyzer divides all emotions into three categories: positive emotions, negative and anger. Positive emotions include joy, optimism, inspiration, happiness, satisfaction. Negative - fear, disgust, denial, humiliation, guilt, despair. Anger is a type of negative emotions with such components as aggression, rage, frustration, irritation, hostility.
Social component . There is also a division according to three types: openness, expression of consent, honesty (integrity). Openness is the readiness of a person for a new experience; expression of consent - the tendency to find compromise and cooperation; honesty, good faith - the desire to act accordingly.

Writing style : there are three categories here: analytics, confidence and caution. Analytical style of presentation shows the desire of the author to analyze, understanding the essence of things. Confidence reflects the degree of certainty, confidence of a person in something. And caution - the desire for a gradual development of events.

Tone Analyzer can be used in many cases. For example, to create posts in social networks, when the authors of messages want to be sure of the correct message sending and its emotional coloring. This tool can also be used by marketers, public figures and representatives of many other professions. Together with the IBM Speech to Tex service, the Tone Analyzer becomes a powerful tool for ensuring more effective communication between individuals and groups of people.

Now the service works only with English text. Working with this tool is absolutely free. Available and relevant technical documentation .
