Tesla Motors has tripled the area of ​​land under the "Gigafactory battery"

Tesla, it seems, is going to significantly increase the production capacity of its future "Battery Gig Factory", which is already quite large. Over the previous few months, the company bought approximately 200,000 m ² in addition to the main plot of land with an area of ​​100,000 m ² purchased in 2014. The company's contract with the county authorities provided for the possibility of acquiring additional land plots. It should be noted that in Reno, Story district, Nevada , there are practically no industrial enterprises, so the officials from Tesla welcomed the initiative with joy.

Tesla has an open credit line, which allows you to receive significant loans. The company recently received about $ 750 million to continue working and expanding activity. Tesla needed the money to develop a new range of relatively inexpensive electric vehicles.

Most of the area of ​​land purchased is a buffer zone, where nothing will be built, except for solar panels, for the operation of the enterprise. It is worth recalling that Nevada is a rather deserted state, where solar activity is high. On the remaining area, an enterprise is being built that will supply batteries for electric vehicles, home and industrial power systems.

The “gigafabrika” itself cost the company $ 5 billion, the enterprise is a very important part of the company's plan to increase the production of electric vehicles to 500,000 per year, as well as to reduce the cost of batteries by 30%. About 25% of the enterprise’s industrial capacity will be used to develop batteries that will be installed in the home and industrial power systems shown earlier by Tesla .

The company is being built in stages. Metal structures and the roof are already ready.

Gigafabrika will start producing batteries at the end of 2016. By 2020, the factory will expand, and the total capacity of the enterprise will be 50 GWh of batteries per year. This plant in Nevada will produce more batteries than all the other enterprises in the world produce together.

By the end of construction, about 6,500 people will be employed at the factory. State authorities have provided about $ 1.3 billion investment.
