Named the most popular messengers in Russia: Viber, WhatsApp and Skype

RBC talks about the results of the research of the wireless technologies department of J'son & Partners Consulting, which investigated the popularity of instant messengers in Russia. According to the data, the most popular messenger is Viber, which is used by 61% of users. Quite significantly behind him WhatsApp, whose share is 49%. Closes the top three Skype with almost 16% of the audience.

In absolute terms, the situation with Viber and WhatsApp is as follows: the share of the first is about 50 million people, the second is more than 30 million people. No data is provided on Skype. The authors of the study believe that the popularity of Viber and WhatsApp is due to the simplicity of registration and "... no need to keep the application in active mode so that subscribers can dial in, unlike Skype", although in fact you can also be from Microsoft after entering the messenger in the background, where you can receive calls and messages.

It should be noted that the result of J'son & Partners Consulting is at least controversial, since another analytic agency cites its data, which are quite different in terms of the numbers of instant messengers. TNS Russia also considers WhatsApp, Viber and Skype to be the leaders, but gives completely different numbers:

Today it became known that WhatsApp canceled the fee for using its application, which after the first year amounted to 99 cents. At the same time, it was promised that, as before, there would be no ads in the messenger, but instead there would be tools “allowing to communicate with companies and organizations”, which would be interesting for the user to receive information from.
