Jaq - charging for a fuel cell smartphone

External battery is an excellent solution that allows you to charge the gadget with a dead battery at any time of the day, anywhere. But if the external battery itself is discharged, and there is no power outlet nearby - this may already be a problem. I myself use an external battery, and often forget to charge it myself, unfortunately.

Swedish startup MyFC decided to "reinvent the wheel", and created its own version of the charger. It does not require energy replenishment, only hydrogen is needed for work. The device is called Jaq, and it is a fuel cell charging, working on hydrogen.

Now, instead of connecting the charging to the outlet, in order to replenish the battery’s reserves, the owner needs to insert a special cartridge, inside which is salt and water. After the cartridge is inserted, 10 fuel cells start producing energy. "Capacity" of the charger is small - about 1800 mAh, when compared with conventional batteries. This is enough to almost fully charge the battery iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6. The transfer of energy to the phone is via USB.

According to the creators of Jaq, the user, who will be for a long time without access to the electrical network, needs a stock of 10-20 cartridges. Thanks to this, the smartphone will work in the most distant places from civilization.

Naturally, cartridges have to buy. The company offers the following scheme. Chargers will be distributed through the cellular operator, and they will be free for customers. But you already need to buy cartridges - either a subscription will work (a certain number of cartridges per unit of time), or the buyer can purchase any number of cartridges at a certain price per piece on the manufacturer's website. The exact cost of the cartridge is unknown, but the subscription price is announced - it is $ 5 for a certain amount (yes, there’s again a lack of information) of the cartridges.

So far, Jaq is available only in Sweden, soon MyFC will enter markets in Dubai, USA, and China. As for the cartridges, but in the next year they are planned to be 100% recyclable.
