New service Google News Lab helps journalists to do their work
The search giant has launched a new project called Google News Lab , the main idea of which is to try to offer journalists the entire set of Google technologies so that they can do their job better - create a high-quality media product. In essence, the site is a detailed manual from recipes and manuals that cover a typical journalist's work cycle: searching for material, its research, selection and analysis of facts, dissemination on the Internet and receiving feedback from readers and viewers. So far, the site is available only in English. Google News Labs conventionally consists of three large sections.
The first is called Tools and is a collection of four subsections that consistently describe the cycle of preparation of media material. For example, the journalist is offered to start developing the topic from the Research section, which contains several interactive lessons with relevant videos. To gather the required facts, most likely the author will need to own several Google search tools: advanced search and image search. Going to the relevant sections you can briefly get an idea of such search tools as : site,: filetype or that you can find an image in Google Chrome simply by clicking on it with the right mouse button.

In addition, it will not be out of place to stay up to date with new search results, by becoming familiar with Google Alerts, or to learn how to work with the Google News archive. According to the creators, these tools should provide the editors with the most up-to-date information from the Internet, teaching the newsroom staff how to properly use Google search.
The next subsection is Report , which offers the journalist to choose additional options in order to provide his material with clarity. For example, you can use Google Maps to display geographic information or a video from YouTube, immediately using it, letting the consumer know what the content is about.
The Distribute subsection tells how exactly the media can be published and how to start its distribution on the Internet. For this purpose, you can use the Google Play store, join in the Google News feed, or use the social features of Google+.
Finally, the Optimize subsection describes the possibilities for analyzing and responding to material using Google’s analytical tools. For example, you can get acquainted with the tools of analyzing YouTube audience or Google Analytics.
The Google Trends section of Google News Labs is essentially a link to the corresponding Google Trends service that helps you understand the popularity of search queries on the Internet. Learning to catch the interest of the audience (for example, the Italian bank Intesa, the material about which Rossiyskaya Gazeta released it) is interested in Russia today and use it to their advantage - this task can be accomplished by watching the corresponding video with a lesson on using Google Trends.
The last section of the site is called News Labs Programs . This is a directory of links to organizations that are engaged in the news industry and use modern Internet technologies in their work. It may be far from useless to study the relevant resources to get acquainted with the experience of professionals.
