Microsoft is creating a new program for helping the visually impaired, in which it is planned to significantly improve their stay in the city, with or without a guide dog. The partner of the program was headphones with bone conduction sound technology - Aftershokz Bluez2 .
The “prototype” of this direction was already launched last year, but then there were only warning signals in the arsenal of the program, but at the present time this is a more flexible algorithm. Thus, the bone conduction headset will be synchronized with a special program with the possibility of voice control. A person can not only receive recommendations on his route, but also ask, communicate with service representatives.

This will allow to be more free in the movements, to instantly receive information about what is in close proximity, and about what is happening around, in the direction of movement.
The device will consist of several parts, including a control panel, equipped with several main buttons that call up commands. This is logical, given the difficulties that can arise for visually impaired users with a smartphone, and also taking into account that the hands may be busy: a leash, a cane ...
For testing, a part of the city was equipped with beacons, each of which has an individual signal, and as part of an experiment in which both journalists and people with disabilities participated, many admitted that they feel more independent and free to move.
Aftershokz Bluez2 is a consumer headset with bone conduction sound technology, in which the auricles remain open and the sound is perceived by the inner ear through hard tissues. Currently, there are two generations of headphones of this brand: wired and wireless, and the third generation is planned for the first quarter of 2016. Consumer headsets are not synchronized with any special application and work in tandem with a smartphone via Bluetooth.
