I would like to bring to the public the question of hiding the ranking of a topic before voting for it. The problems associated with this have already been discussed. I want to voice what else it can interfere with (and actively interferes with me personally), and how it can be solved.
I do not "hang out" in Habré. I come here every 3-4 days to read the freshest and most useful. Usually I look through the main page, top and habranth. I skim through the topics, focusing on the name of the topic and on (! Attention!) Rating. I am convinced that topics that are not gaining enough pluses are not worth my attention. I spend my time only on the most necessary. I can not read everything on all topics. Of each, I read one thing, the most exciting. If I don’t want to skip topics on a specific topic, I subscribe to the relevant team blog and read to the habrant.
What does the evaluation orientation give? What topics are gaining a lot of benefits?
- high-quality professional articles
- stormy discussions of recent events (in the world / on Habré / in IT)
- something valuable from an artistic (moral / poetic) point of view, for example, parables
- all bullshit
')
As you can see, even the topics with a high rating, my brain then has to be filtered again, but this is not so difficult. The main thing is that the main garbage is already filtered.
So what am I leading to? Everything rests on time. I used to grab a scroll with a mouse and quickly turned the page down. The choice of topics for reading took no more than 5 minutes. Now I have to fucking poke on the plus sign under each topic in order to find out how much it excited people. Because it is much faster than reading the first paragraph and to understand what is interesting there. To be honest, all this (poke and wait for the server to answer for each topic) lifted!
What i suggest Make in the profile field “show ratings of unread topics”, which will be turned off by default. Thus, the desire to navigate the estimates will be a conscious decision of each habrachelovek. And everyone will choose their own way of being in Habré.
PS You can consider me a lemming and habrabydl, but this filtering method really saved my time. On Habré, I almost never vote. The whole point is that before I spent on Habr 20 minutes, now - about one and a half hours. I'd rather start reading news2 ...
UPD : In the comments, the skifs
habrauser offered the option: “Perhaps it is worth making a choice either to see the ratings of the topics, but not to have the opportunity to vote for them, or not to see and have the opportunity to vote. So objectivity will not suffer and you will be easier. "
In my opinion, this is IT!
