Google has registered two unmanned aerial vehicles M2 and B3 at the FAA for testing in the United States. The beginning of the first test is scheduled for October 2, the second - for October 7, 2015.
Project Wing drone messengers (in the photo) were tested earlier in Australia, but the tests were not very successful. In March of this year, Google announced that it was working on a new design of the device. In August, it was reported that Google X overtook the FAA restrictions and tested UAVs in the US without permission. She took advantage of the good relationship with NASA and ran a test site in California, although it is intended only for government agencies. Now, since two UAVs in the FAA official catalog, all the formalities must be observed and the rules will no longer be violated. ')
The registry states that drones belong to the class of fixed-wing aircraft, are equipped with two electric motors and weigh less than 25 kg. Since each has a separate model number, most likely they have a different design.
If these are the same devices that Google cheated on in August along with NASA, then they can accelerate to a speed of 160 km / h and move after losing communication with the operator at an altitude of up to 120 m. In case of loss of the GPS signal, the UAV automatically returns to base and immediately lands.
According to The Guardian, the Google test will last six months. Engineers seem to want to check the cellular connection with UAVs flying at low altitudes, as well as data transmission over 4G and LTE.
However, these drones may not be at all for the delivery of goods. According to information from the sources of the Recode publication, they belong not to the Wing project, but to the Titan project, whose goal is to provide access to the Internet.
