Russian cosmonauts will not only
polish the ISS portholes from the outside , but will also conduct fourteen experiments in medicine and biology,
reports TASS . The total number of experiments of the next crew will be 19, some of which will be carried out jointly by American and Russian specialists.
The launch of Soyuz TMA-16M will take place on March 27 at 22:43 Moscow time. The American astronaut Scott Kelly and the Russian cosmonauts Mikhail Kornienko and Gennady Padalka will fly to the ISS.

The flight of astronauts will last a year - from March 27, 2015 to March 3, 2016. Gennady Padalka will return to Earth earlier than the rest, he will spend six months at the station, after which he will become a record holder for the total time spent in space - more than 900 days.

During the flight, Kornienko will conduct 14 Russian experiments on space medicine and physiology,
RSC Energia reports . The astronauts will determine the mechanisms
of bone loss , will receive information about the role of the
right and left heart in adapting to the conditions of a long flight in space, investigating the effects of stressors
on the immune system .
Kornienko and Kelly will jointly conduct an experiment
called “Movement of liquids” , the purpose of which is to study “the mechanisms regulating the distribution of liquid media in the body and their influence on changes in intracranial pressure and the function of the visual analyzer during long-term space flight and ONES”. Mikhail Kornienko will help his American colleagues to perform five experiments, and Scott Kelly will join the astronaut in two Russian ones.
