Comparison of quadcopter DJI Phantom 3 Standard, Advanced and Professional

The Chinese company DJI has long been established in the market of devices and gadgets for aerial photography. Since 2006, the company has been developing drones and is perhaps the most recognizable manufacturer of unmanned vehicles in the world. In 2013, DJI launches a line of drones called Phantom - quadrocopters with improved (compared to previous models) air and navigation systems, Wi-Fi connectivity and a built-in camera.

The Chinese did not cram all their achievements into one unit, as their compatriots like to do, but released several UAVs differing in characteristics and price. Let's compare the most popular models of the series: Phantom 3 Standard, Advanced and Professional.

Appearance

')
All quadcopters of the series are similar to each other like twin brothers: X-shaped case design in white, four working screws, camera bracket and four legs. Also on the case are indicators that signal the maneuvers of the device and allow not to lose the drone in the sky at night. By the way, on all devices they are of a different color - from red to Standart to gold from Professional. The length of the gadget on the diagonal is almost the same for all Phantom: Standard has a size of 590 mm, Advanced and Professional - 689 mm. All quadcopters work out of the box: you only need to get the gadget, charge the battery, attach the screws and you can run into the sky!

Flight time and distance

Perhaps the most important factor when buying a quadrocopter. Everything is simple here - each drone from the Phantom series stays in the sky for 22-25 minutes, depending on weather conditions. However, the chargers and gadget batteries are different. The basic version has a 57 W charger (1.5 hours of charging), as well as Advanced, and Professional - 100 W. This affects the battery charging time: the older version is “gaining momentum” almost twice as fast. The younger version can fly at 1 km from the operator, while the high-altitude ceiling is 500 m. Advanced and Professional, thanks to the Lightbridge data transmission technology, have significantly “pumped”: the drones of these models fly up to 2 km, the flight height is the same 500 m

Shooting photos and videos

In this parameter, quadrocopters are seriously different. Perhaps, the high price of Advanced and Professional is justified precisely by the improved quality of photo and video. Phantom Standart (like all the models described) has a built-in camera on board. The characteristics of the latter allow you to shoot 2.7K-video (2704 Ă— 1520 pixels) and 12-megapixel photos, the ISO range is 100-1600 for photos and 100-3200 for video, the maximum bitrate is 40 MB / s.

The Sony EXMOR sensor is installed on Advanced and Professional, optics allow you to take 12-megapixel photos and record video at 60 Mb / s. The main difference is in video quality: Advanced records video in 2.7K resolution, Professional can write UHD video with a resolution of 4096 Ă— 2160, i.e. 4K. As a bonus for advanced versions of photos and videos, you can write in 3/5/7 frames per second, slow motion and other modes.

Control

All models of the series are piloted using a remote, which resembles a game controller, and a smartphone (tablet) connected to the console. Standart runs on the DJI GO application, which allows you to stream 2.4 GHz live video in 720p and 30 fps. The complete set of Advanced and Professional was developed by the new application DJI Mobile App, adapted to the latest models.

Thanks to technology DJI Lightbridge, embedded in advanced quadcopter software, the camera now transmits video at a distance of 2 km with a delay of 220 ms. As befits "adult" drone, all Phantom models have built-in stabilization, which simplifies piloting. Also, quadcopters automatically hang at a height and wait for the host team. If the Phantom loses contact with the pilot, or the battery power runs out, the smart machine will return to the place from which it began its flight.

Other features

Advanced and Professional received the function “Point of Interest”, which allows the camera to focus attention on a specific object: you can concentrate on piloting, and the drone itself will monitor the target. The owners of Phantom advanced copters have also received a more functional application that allows you to edit just the footage. The Professional model is equipped with the Vision function, with the help of which the device can be controlled indoors or in an enclosed space - the system will analyze the environment and prevent the blades from contacting with foreign objects.
