The new director of Volkswagen Matthias Müller [Matthias Müller] promised that in October, the company will prepare fixes for car software, which caused a
scandal with the forgery of tests on environmental
performance of the exhaust.
He called the events "the biggest test of the company in its history," and added that "together [with our employees] we want to prove to the whole world that Volkswagen deserves public trust."
Martin Winterkorn, the previous director of the company, resigned last week because of the scandal. In addition, since September 18, when the situation was widely publicized, the company's shares fell by 40%.
The problem is that the exhaust of cars with two-liter diesel engines of Volkswagen turned out to be ten times less environmentally friendly than it was announced on the results of tests. The car's computer intentionally changed the engine's operating mode so that good exhaust results were obtained on tests. In total, 11 million cars were produced with such engines.

Muller promises to fix itMueller argues that although the ability to change the engine's operating mode is indeed present on all these cars, the necessary software was activated "only on some of them." Unfortunately, he did not specify which one.
In addition, it is not clear in what mode the engines will start working after the software is “fixed”, and whether they will no longer be as economical as before. It was the fame of the special efficiency of these engines and prompted the company to go on forgery with tests.
On Tuesday, Herbert Diess [Herbert Diess], the head of the VW brand in Europe, met with the European Commissioner for Industry and Market, Elzbieta Bienkowska, to discuss the consequences of the incident and out of the situation. The results of the negotiations will be known later.
