The descent vehicle of the Soyuz TMA-14M spacecraft with two Russian cosmonauts and an American astronaut successfully landed in Kazakhstan in a planned area 146 km south-east of the city of Zhezkazgan. The search and rescue team reported the crew’s well-being. The vice-premier of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin also speaks about this.

Three members of the ISS-42 crew arrived in the ground (in order of evacuation from the capsule): Alexander Samokutyaev, Barry Wilmore and Elena Serova. It is easy to notice in media reports that special attention is paid to the astronaut - it is her photos that are most often used to illustrate articles about the crews in which she belongs. This is not surprising: there are only four female astronauts (or two, if we take into account only the time interval after the collapse of the USSR), and Serova became the first Russian woman to be onboard the ISS. The last time a cosmonaut woman was sent into space on the Soyuz more than 20 years ago was Elena Kondakova, who went to Mir on October 4, 1994.

Anton Shkaplerov, astronaut of the European Space Agency Samantha Cristoforetti and American Terry Wörts remained on board the International Space Station, the latter now is the commander after Wilmore’s departure. The ISS in its current configuration is designed for six people, and the crew replenishment will be sent to Soyuz TMA-16M on March 27. The crew of this ship will be divided: Gennady Padalka will return to Earth in October, and Mikhail Kornienko and Scott Kelly will spend a whole year at the station to study the effects of long-term space flight on the human body.
