Up to 20% of ink remains in “empty” Epson professional cartridges.

The staff at Bellevue Fine Art in Seattle decided to find out how much ink actually remains in the Epson 9900 color inkjet printer cartridges when the printer requires them to be replaced. It turned out that instead of the declared residue of 1%, in fact, the ink remains up to 20%.

There is a common story that ink in cartridges cost more than the cost of human blood on the black market. There is also evidence that the amount of ink in cartridges is decreasing every year. It is no secret that printer manufacturers earn mainly on sales of cartridges, and they are very upset when people refill and reuse them.

Even if the issues related to ecology and environmental protection were not brought to the discussion, it became interesting for printers - how much money in the form of unspent ink they actually throw away.

Opening up professional 700 ml cartridges for some time, they were surprised to find that instead of 1% or less of the printer claimed by the printer, from 100 to 150 ml of ink remained in the cartridge. In cartridges for 350 ml there are 60-80 ml. It turns out that 15-20% of the money paid for the ink is wasted. With the fact that the printer itself costs about $ 5000, a set of cartridges for it costs $ 3800 .

Naturally, the staff of the printing house repeatedly complained about these shortcomings to Epson, but could not get any clear answer. Perhaps this story, becoming public knowledge, will give progress to improvements. Either this is a flaw in the operation of the printer, or it is a deliberate artificial increase in sales of cartridges - in any case, it is necessary to change this vicious practice.

In the meantime, you can advise the printing house to pay attention to the system of continuous ink supply . There everything is fair.
