On Thursday, the founder of the WhatsApp messenger,
Jan Kum, said on his Facebook page that more than 900 million people around the world use his project every month. This is already 100 million more than in April 2015 and one and a half times more than in August 2014.
For comparison, Twitter has 300 million active users per month, Facebook Messenger has 700 million, and Facebook has
about a billion a day . The competitors of the messenger are still not doing so well: in the spring Viber noted
250 million users , and
Telegram - 60 million . Skype statistics were not disclosed - as of 2013, it had
300 million active users per month.
Facebook bought WhatsApp in February 2014 for
$ 19 billion (12 of them were transferred as stocks), but so far it is developing independently. How new owners of the messenger plan to return their investments, has not yet been reported.
