The stadium of the professional basketball club "
Sacramento Kings " in California is built with the help of modern technology. No, 3D-printers are not involved here yet - but the whole process
can be conveniently monitored using unmanned vehicles .
If you did repairs at least in your apartment, you know how difficult it is to keep track even of such a project. On a gigantic construction site, it’s technically very difficult to control all the details. Plays a role and the physical size of objects that are simply difficult to circumvent, and the difficulty of access to many, not yet fully completed, its parts, and the periodic change of working types of work.

On the construction of this stadium, the progress of work is monitored with the help of UAVs. Once a day, a flock of multi-rotors rises into the air, flies around the entire construction area and shoots the progress on video. With the help of a special program, these data are transformed into a three-dimensional model that reflects in detail the progress achieved so far. The program compares the model obtained from real data with the architectural one. As a result, according to the set of reference points, it determines: where construction goes according to schedule, where it lags behind, and where deviations from the project are observed.

“We identified critical places in the facility - those where problems are likely to occur,” says Mani Golparvar-Fard, one of the software developers, an assistant professor in civil engineering at the University of Illinois. “As a result, you can immediately see all the deviations from the project, and find out where and what improvements have been made.”
On issues and concerns related to the privacy of workers, system developers object that every construction site is closely monitored for the progress of work. Simply, if earlier they were testing and fixed video cameras, now it is more modern equipment - which copes well with its work, despite some of its unusualness. Lincoln Wood, Turner Construction’s development and construction manager, project manager, is pleased with the new information gathering system. He notes that the actual images of the construction that are obtained and their automatic analysis allow us to create a more complete picture of what is happening, and, for example, to instantly assess how a delay in one of its parts can affect the overall course of work.

The developers' plans are to use copters who can install wireless static cameras in the right places of construction for continuous monitoring of the work progress. In addition, they want to implement a system that monitors the activity of workers and evaluates their overall efficiency and employment, for an accurate assessment of their work by managers.
