Some games do not age, despite the fact that their fans are aging. Sometimes, even after many years after meeting a toy, I want to replay it again. But, the trouble is - some such games are fully networked, and the developer has long closed down the game servers. Such a situation is far from uncommon, and fans of old games decided to fight for the right to raise their own servers for toys that had left the market.
At the same time,
a whole campaign was launched , the purpose of which is to seek changes to paragraph 17 of the USC § 1201 of the Law on the Protection of Copyright in the digital age. Some provisions of this law imply legal responsibility for citizens who decide to launch their own server for a copyrighted toy.
The author of the project is Kendra Albert, a law student, and a former intern at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). According to Kendra, many gamers on their own raise servers for some toys, for example, Mario Kart Wii. But the problem is that, sooner or later, companies can sue the owners of such servers, and the defendant will be punished with almost 100% probability.

But the more toys appear on the market, the more they leave the market over time, leaving gamers unwilling to play with anything. Paragraph 1201 of the Law on the Protection of Copyright in the Digital Age must be amended so that enthusiasts can finally be able to support the game servers of outdated toys without fear.
According to the author, the changes will affect only those games that are no longer supported by the developer, and whose servers have long been closed or their support has been discontinued. In this game with huge worlds and a large number of participants in the gameplay will not be affected, because they rarely leave the market, although such cases occur. For the most part, we are talking about servers for relatively small toys (the same Worms for PS Vita), which have a lot of fans, and the servers no longer work.
