Cognitive Technologies and KamAZ
announced the launch of a project to build an unmanned truck. The total cost of the project is estimated at 390 million rubles - the funds will be needed to develop a production sample of the car. The project is allocated 300 million rubles by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. Another 90 million rubles allocated by the company "KAMAZ". The project is long-term - the appearance of an unmanned truck is planned only by 2020 (commercial sample).
As for the
company Cognitive Technologies , it is the winner of the competition held earlier Ministry of Education. The competition was held in the framework of the federal target program "Research and development in priority areas of development of the scientific and technological complex of Russia for 2014-2020." Cognitive Technologies in the project acts as a developer of the autonomous vehicle control system, and KamAZ will finalize the truck for such a system. Cognitive Technologies is a highly respected company. The basis of the development team of the company Cognitive Technologies was formed in 1968 under the leadership of V. L. Arlazarov. The team implemented projects for the creation and implementation of information systems, automated control systems and operating systems in government bodies and at large industrial enterprises of the USSR, created the KAISSA program (the first world chess champion among computers) and the “Soviet Microsoft” DBMS INES . In 1993, on the basis of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence of the Institute for System Analysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences (former VNIISI USSR Academy of Sciences), Olga Uskova and Vladimir Arlazarov established Cognitive Technologies.

The first prototype of a robotic truck should appear by the end of this year. In 2016, according to the plan - the beginning of the use of "UAVs" by the company itself. In 2017, developers are planning to launch a pilot project in the Republic of Tatarstan, already on public roads. Of course, for the operation of such cars on the roads, it is necessary to make appropriate changes in some laws - and such changes (in regional legislation) are planned to be held in the same 2017.
“An important feature of the project is the possibility of real work in the Russian context. Unlike foreign developers who are more focused on ideal traffic conditions: high-quality marking, favorable weather conditions, etc., our approach to creating a computer vision system allows us to recognize the road scene (including the boundaries of the road, the width of lanes and .d.) in the absence of any markup. The task is to create a more advanced system than abroad, ”
says project
manager Oleg Savin.
According to the developers, this truck drone will be safer than a regular truck. The computer system will be able to assess the intensity of traffic on the roads, detect the presence of obstacles on the road and respond to changes in the environment in less than 0.3 seconds (in case of danger detection). KamAZ plans to make a drone truck more versatile than its foreign counterparts. In particular, the truck will be able to work in the absence of marking. On the technology that will form the basis of an autonomous truck control system,

It is worth noting that now active work on the creation of a robotic truck
holds Mercedes . In Russia, the KB Aurora company demonstrated its version of an unmanned vehicle (Gazel). They plan to develop their own truck-robots and Volvo (2020) with Daimler (2025).
