Microsoft introduced the augmented reality glasses HoloLens

Microsoft HoloLens, a new gadget presented by the company at the presentation of Windows 10 , caused a storm of positive feedback among those who managed to try it on themselves. The gadget is a glasses for creating augmented reality. Wearing glasses, you can work with virtual objects that are displayed on top of real glasses, visible through transparent lenses. Managed in the virtual world will be possible with the help of gestures and voice commands.

At the presentation, Alex Kipman and other members of the Studio C development team presented examples of working with glasses, including watching a 3D video and creating a three-dimensional quadrocopter model in a special editor. The developers said that the models created can be immediately sent to a 3D printer. The pre-printed quadcopter model was then shown to an enthusiastic audience.

In fact, the device does not create holograms, but simply uses stereo imaging to create a similar impression, coupled with eye movement tracking. To create augmented reality, the device does not require additional cameras, sensors, and even a connection to a computer. The glasses operating environment called Windows Holographic will be supported by all devices running Windows 10.

The device has already become interested in NASA, and together with Jet Propulsion Labs a technology is already being developed that will allow the control of the Martian Rover using augmented reality. For example, scientists will be able to walk on the virtual surface of Mars and mark the surfaces of interest to them that the rover will have to explore.

The developers are confident that Windows Holographic and glasses will be on sale at the same time as Windows 10. The API of the system will be included in the OS, and the platform will be open to third-party developers of both software and hardware.

Observer resource arstechnica , who managed to try the glasses on yourself, spoke about the extraordinary feeling of "getting into the future." Augmented reality allowed him to see, along with the real objects of the tower from Minecraft, the Skype window and even the surface of Mars. According to him, virtual objects are clearly and clearly visible and look almost opaque, which creates a feeling of their “reality”.
