Embedded video expected on Twitter in the coming weeks

Unnamed Re / Code sources familiar with Twitter’s product development claim that the long-awaited Twitter Integrated Video announcement might happen in the next few weeks.

This feature will provide all users of the social network the opportunity to shoot, edit and publish video recorded by the camera of the smartphone, or already in memory. Thus, Twitter is trying to encourage users to create more video content, because right now Twitter users have no other option than Vine, where each video is limited to six seconds.

The new video function promises to be different from the Vine standalone service, while at the same time preserving common features. First, it promises to integrate a video service with the basic interface of Twitter and its applications.

Secondly, unnamed persons who, allegedly, had time to experience a new opportunity in an experimental mode, speak of a 20-second video length.

Twitter’s interest in embedded video feeds is understandable - Facebook already claims that its users watch over a billion videos every day. Snapchat and Instagram, Twitter’s main competitors in terms of the number of users and the dynamics of growth, have already had a built-in video for some time and cannot be left behind.

Last March, Twitter made available “ video unit ” for a group of verified users, which allowed uploading video for up to 10 minutes via the web interface. In November, this fact (the presence of a video unit) was confirmed by the company, and it was added that a public announcement would occur “somewhere in the first half of 2015”.
