Programmers can be fined $ 48,000 for a multicopter crashing into a skyscraper

On July 21, 30-year-old Chinese tourist Yang Yunfan, while in Taiwan's Taipei capital with his girlfriend, decided to shoot a cool video using his quadrocopter DJI Phantom 3 near Taipei 101 skyscraper. As a result, the kopter lost control and crashed into a skyscraper, and then fell.

Since there were no casualties in this incident (and the fall of a rather large drone weighing more than 1 Kg from this height could have ended very sadly), no one could have known about this if the Chinese had not posted the accident video taken by the drone on the Internet.

As a result, it gained great popularity, and the authorities of Taiwan paid attention to it. And if before Yunfan could have decided that he had lost about $ 1000- $ 1500 (the cost of a drone with a video camera) in this incident, now he could face a fine in the amount of $ 9,600 to $ 48,000.

Yunfang, who works as a programmer, has already been in Taipei as an exchange student. This time he was supposed to fly home to China, Fujian Province, July 30th. But while the authorities decide whether to apply fines to this case on the basis of the misuse of airspace, he had to visit the local police station.

The administration of the Taipei 101 tower in a statement said that since mid-July, there have already been three incidents involving multicopter crashes. Since drones falling from a great height are a real threat to pedestrians, and the tower is a rather attractive place for shooting from the air, the locals are very concerned about this issue.

They criticize the government for its slowness in the process of adopting laws and decrees related to the use of drones in the region. Some even worry that terrorists can use them for explosions by attaching explosives to drones.

The Taipei 101 tower was built in 4 years and opened in 2003. It has 101 floors and a height of 509 m. It is in 5th place in the list of the tallest buildings in the world .

In the mainland of China in recent years there have been several incidents with drones. One of them fell in June on the way of the open subway line, which led to a delay in trains. Another in 2013, having flown into the territory of the international airport of Beijing, led to a delay of 10 flights.

Around the world, due to negligence or technical failures, such incidents also occur more and more often, as the number of people who are fond of driving drones increases. Recently, in California, authorities allowed firefighters to shoot down multikopter , if they prevent them from working. This happened after the firemen for twenty minutes could not extinguish the fire from the air because of several unmanned aerial vehicles, which posed a threat to the fire helicopters.
