In the Moscow State University will create a bank of biomaterials "Noah's Ark"

According to ITAR-TASS, a bank of biological materials will be created at Moscow State University, intended for the cryo-preservation of the cellular substance "of all life on Earth", including endangered species. The rector of Moscow State University, academician Viktor Sadovnichy, calls this scientific project “Noah's Ark”.

According to the rector, the university received the largest grant of the Russian Science Foundation in the amount of 1 billion rubles for its implementation. The project should be implemented in the science and technology valley of Moscow State University, known as Sparrow Hills.

“If this project is implemented, it will be a breakthrough in the history of Russia. Russia is the first in the world to create the "Noah's Ark".

The depositary also includes the creation of a special information system for communication with other biomaterial depositories in Russia, as well as with foreign analogues.

The most famous project of this kind is the “ World Seed Vault” on the island of Spitsbergen, also known as the Doomsday Vault, created under the auspices of the United Nations with funds from Norway in the amount of $ 9 million.

Creating a science and technology valley "Sparrow Hills" is scheduled for completion in 2018. Its main goal is the scientific fundamental research of the laboratories of Moscow State University and the invitation to cooperation of high-tech corporations.
