Hydrogen car Toyota Mirai passes more than 500 km on one refueling
Photo Toyota Toyota's North American division, Jim Lentz, announced that his first hydrogen production car, Mirai, was able to cover a distance of 312 miles (approximately 502 km) by filling the fuel tank with hydrogen once. In terms of liters, this figure looks like this: 1 gallon of hydrogen (about 3.8 liters) is expended by the hybrid installation of the car for a distance of about 67 miles (about 107 km). This consumption of hydrogen is actually important for two reasons. On the one hand, it is important for ordinary car buyers, who are likely to be pleasantly aware of the possibilities of their car, which also uses a cheap and truly eco-friendly type of fuel. The US Environmental Protection Agency (United States Environmental Protection Agency, EPA), which controls the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere generated by road transport. In 2013, officials imposed fines of $ 210 million for Hyundai and $ 185 million for Kia for the fact that South Korean auto companies deliberately underestimated fuel consumption in cars sold. About 900 thousand cars Hyindai and Kia were sold in the USA for two years with a deliberately wrong indicator of fuel consumption, which was underestimated by 3% (0.3–0.5 liters of gasoline). In the case of the Toyota Mirai, obviously, officials have no questions.
About the beginning of sales of Mirai in Japan, it became known at the end of last year. The car in its homeland costs about $ 61,100, while the government of the country is subsidizing the purchase of about $ 17,000 for the environmental friendliness of the car. The Mirai electric motor with a capacity of 151 liters. with. receives energy from the converter, the source of which is hydrogen, which is stored in two carbon fiber tanks under a pressure of 70 MPa. They contain 5 kg of liquefied hydrogen (this is 170 liters). Toyota advertises the car in a rather specific way: the video states that hydrogen is the most widely distributed chemical element of the Universe and there is so much of it that you can get it even from manure. The video with the advertisement has the straight name “Fueled by bullsh * t” and you can see it below:
