Manual exoskeleton helps to shoot more precisely.

The exoskeleton is an “external skeleton” which, due to the framework, increases the strength of a person. He must repeat the biomechanics, which will allow him to proportionally increase the force during movements. Such devices are used in medicine , agriculture and military affairs. Practices often move from one sphere to another, changing their purpose, as is the case with the "hand" for firing.

Researchers from the US Army are testing a carbon-fiber one-hand exoskeleton, originally designed for rehabilitation after a stroke. The new appointment of the device - help in shooting.

A bit of history

The first exoskeleton was developed by General Electric in conjunction with the US Army in the 1960s. The device did not have feedback and synchronization with the human movement, but it made it possible to transform the efforts that a person applies when lifting 4.5 kilograms into 110 kilograms.

Exoskeletons are created for medical purposes. A nurse with such a device can lift a lot more weight than without it. This is important in Japan, where the number of old people is increasing due to long-livers.

Hand Exoskeleton

Exoskeletons for rehabilitation after injuries and accidents may not work with the whole body, but with its separate parts - as is the case with ReWalk, which supports the spine and enhances leg movements, allowing a person to walk. The exoskeleton on the arm is intended for stroke victims: it stabilizes the arm, allowing the person to make clearer and more confident movements.

The developer of the project Mobile Arm eXoskeleton for Firearm Aim Stabilization (MAXFAS) notes that the operation of the device is similar to image stabilization. Only instead of the camera - the hand of man. MAXFAS compensates for even the smallest tremor that a person is unable to notice, the developer adds.

This is still the first time that an exoskeleton is used to improve the accuracy of shooting with a firearm. Previously, such devices in military affairs were needed to increase the strength and endurance of a soldier.

Testing of the system showed that MAXFAS can teach shooting: accuracy rates improve and remain high after a person stops carrying a device.
