The parody comedy Kung Fury, funded through Kickstarter, appeared in the public domain
On May 28, the world premiere of the short film Kung Fury took place. The film was released free of charge thanks to the support of visitors to the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. The film was shot by Swedish director David Sandberg, who also wrote the script for the film and played a major role in it.
Although crowdfunding cinema cinema is an unusual phenomenon in itself, this film is doubly unusual. In fact, this is a kind of creative "skit" dedicated to the romance of the 80s. Characteristic coarse clothing, synthpop music, police action films, martial arts films, first personal computers and games on slot machines (from the first Tron movie), elements of Indian cinema, fantasy fighters on the theme of Vikings, and even dinosaurs - all mixed up in this happy chaos. ')
The main characters are super-police Kung Fury, hacker Hackerman and Adolf Hitler. Kung Fury is trying to save the world from Hitler with the help of Hackerman. The plot has no special semantic load, but in the retelling it sounds like an essay of a person who has finished the necessary tablets. There is also the main character, who gained superpowers due to the simultaneous bite of a cobra and a lightning strike; Hitler, who appropriated the title of Kung Fuhrer and travels in time; Vikings shooting dinosaurs from multi-barreled machine guns; hacker, hacking space and time, and much more.
The film can cause a variety of emotional reactions - from slight bewilderment to the need for short-term hospitalization, but most people who have found the culture of the 80s have to plunge the film into a state of nostalgic emotion. The music, the color palette, the characteristic dull jokes, the stylization of interference with VHS technologies, the patterns of characters and the plot — everything creates an ideal parody of what happened about 30 years ago.
For a preliminary dive into the atmosphere, you can explore the advertising of laptops from the 1980s and 1990s. Special joy comes from the work of a “hacker” on computers of the MicroBee brand (apparently, Microbee 32K IC), and using the Power Glove game controller for the Nintendo console as a hacking tool. It came out in 1989 and was the first game controller to track the position of a player’s hand in space.

Those who can not set aside half an hour of free time can watch the wonderful video clip with the song True Survivor - the main musical theme of the film, which is performed by the famous TV actor and producer, 80s star David Hasselhof. The clip uses frames from the film.
The Kickstarter project started in December 2013. The author requested an amount of $ 200,000, and received a little more than $ 630,000.
