Neo900 is a project of people who have tender feelings for the
Nokia N900 smartphone. This phone was released in late 2009, and perhaps its main feature was a retractable QWERTY-keyboard, complementary resistive touch screen. Enthusiasts of open systems decided to create their own phone, moreover, completely open and free. At the same time, in order to save money, they chose the N900 as a donor - in fact, it was decided to make a new filling in the old building.
The first team, Maemo, is a software development platform based on Debian Linux. It was developed in the bowels of Nokia as an operating system for mobile systems. The second,
Openmoko, is a project of enthusiasts who tried to create an open smartphone - with fully open specifications and open source software. Their first phone was the Neo 1973, followed by the
Neo FreeRunner (codename GTA02). The project is at the stage of collecting donations and pre-orders for the new version of the motherboard
GTA04 .

Having united, they managed to bring the Neo900 project to the “almost ready” stage - all that remains is to collect money from advance orders for making the first copies. The case and the screen will remain the same - 3.5 "TFT, 800x480. The
phone will have a TI DM3730 processor, 1 GHz, a gigabyte of RAM, 512 MB NAND + 64 GB eMMC + connectivity for external cards. LTE will be one of the additions Since LTE is a closed technology, it will be as isolated as possible from the rest of the hardware, and the operating system can reliably completely disable it if necessary. Among other additions is a compass, a gyroscope, a barometer, a thermometer, support for GLONASS and additional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards.
