Photo by DHLAmazon together with the German logistics company DHL will try
to conduct an experiment and will deliver purchases from the online store not only to a specific address, but literally to the trunk of the customer's car. The idea will be tried during this month in Munich and so far only with Audi car owners who will give their consent to this.
The meaning of the experiment is to reduce the percentage of return packages that could not be handed to the addressee. In Amazon, in order to avoid such situations, they propose to implement the following scheme. When buying a product, the store offers delivery of a parcel not only to home, but also offers to put the buyer in the trunk of the car so that it can receive it when it is actually convenient for him.
Thus several problems are solved. On the one hand, the customer is almost guaranteed to receive his package, although, perhaps, not directly in his hands. Courier service is likely to avoid a situation where an undelivered parcel will have to be returned back, while spending time and money, and a useful place in the warehouse.
The sequence of actions in this case is the following: the buyer himself designates the time when the courier should arrive at his car. In this case, the owner of the car - in this case Audi - will have to agree so that the logistics center can track the position of the car and make sure that it really is in the place indicated by the buyer when placing the order. The courier gets some digital code to access the trunk of the car, which can be used only once and only at certain times. The package falls into the customer's trunk, the car closes again and the code loses its effect.

So far, the program is open to residents of Munich, who are both Audi owners and members of Amazon Prime. The results of the experiment will be published a month later.
