Dawn probe has sent new pictures of Ceres

It looked like one of the first images of Ceres taken by the probe.

As it approaches the dwarf planet Ceres, the Dawn probe sends more and more clear and detailed images of this space object. New photographs that are now available to NASA were obtained when the probe was only 83 thousand kilometers away from Ceres. In the photographs, craters and the most mysterious bright spots that were visible even at a considerable distance are already clearly visible.

According to experts, the higher-quality images will be sent by the probe, the more information scientists can get about Ceres. The team of specialists studying this celestial body is looking forward to March 6, when the probe will go into the planetoid orbit. Nevertheless, scientists expect to receive some answers to questions arising in the course of rapprochement with Ceres even before this deadline.

Currently, the resolution of photos is 7.8 kilometers per 1 pixel.

Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt. The diameter of the planet is 950 kilometers. Perhaps there are huge deposits of water ice on Ceres. Some scientists believe that there may be a liquid ocean under the powerful ice crust.
