Maria from Solar Impulse today sent me an infographic about the Mission Control Center, which will be posted in Monaco. And almost an exact map of the world tour, which starts in March
from Abu Dhabi .
The Mission Control Center will recalculate all the travel parameters twice a day, monitor the weather situation and cloudiness so that Solar Impulse does not remain without solar energy. Experts will monitor enough battery power to the aircraft had enough energy for the night flight.
Twenty specialists will work at the MCC.
- Meteorologists are responsible for the weather situation and the "window" in the clouds.
- Engineers monitor the technical condition of the aircraft.
- A communications specialist monitors voice communication with the pilot.
- Mathematicians calculate flight parameters based on meteorological data, the amount of sunlight and air traffic restrictions.
- The head of the center coordinates the work of the team and makes strategic decisions with the pilot.
- Air traffic controllers contact local flight control centers and approve the route, modifying it if necessary.
