Starting from January 27, each entrance to the St. Petersburg metro is equipped with a turnstile that accepts MasterCard PayPass contactless cards for payment, metro spokesman Yulia Shavel told . The cost of passage is 31 rubles.

Passing passengers through the card will be a cargo turnstile, it is marked with a special MasterCard sticker. Payment is the same as for travel cards. After payment of the passage, the acceptance of the card is blocked for 10 minutes.

The Mastercard contactless PayPass payment system, which has been operating since 2003, is similar to American Express and Visa payPave ExpressPay systems. All of them use the ISO / IEC 14443 standard, which allows you to initiate a payment by simply touching the card to the receiver. Currently, the maximum payment in this way is limited to the amount of $ 50 USD.
