Tesla Model S set a world speed record among serial electric cars



Tesla Model S P85D, recently set a new speed record among serial electric vehicles. The electric car covered a quarter of a mile (400 meters) in 11.6 seconds. The record was set at the Palm Beach International Raceway, and it is already officially registered by the National Electric Drag Racing Association.

From zero to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour), an electric car from Tesla Motors accelerated in just 3.1 seconds. The finish line of the car crossed at a speed of 184 kilometers per hour. According to experts, acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds is a record not only for electric vehicles. This is a record set of speed among all four-door cars produced to date.

An updated version of Tesla S, P85D, was introduced by Tesla Motors CEO Ilon Mask last year. This electric car has 2 electric motors with a total power of 691 horsepower.

In the Palm Beach Run, the car improved Tesla's official results by 0.1 seconds (regarding acceleration) and the result of overcoming a quarter-mile section of roads improved by 0.2 seconds. In the race, the electric car competed with the 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
