TheInformation journalists, citing sources familiar with the situation,
argue that the search giant is evaluating the possibility of investing in SpaceX Ilona Mask, widely known for space projects. The subject of the contract between the two companies should be Google’s participation in the creation of special communication satellites, the launch of which should provide access to cheap Internet for those inhabitants of the planet where this benefit is not yet available.
The deal has not yet been finalized, but the size of the investment in the Ilona Musk company can reach a significant amount of 10 billion dollars. No other details, regarding the timing or specific goals of cooperation, have yet been made public, but it can be assumed that this is a
project to launch 4,000 satellites and the "
internetization " of Mars.
It should be noted that the project Project Loon has been developed for a long time by Google itself, which is also focused on providing access to the Network for residents of remote areas, but here the balloon network should act as a signal carrier. Earlier
it was reported that Project Loon successfully completed the planned tests.
Also, quite recently, Virgin Galactics’s Richard Branson’s company
announced plans very similar to SpaceX’s plans, only smaller ones - it was about launching 2,400 communications satellites. On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg's company is also looking for access to an audience that has not yet been reached, albeit on a more modest scale, by
participating in the Internet.org project, within which it is planned to provide Internet access through cheap devices and an optimized connection. At one time, Facebook intended to acquire Titan Aerospace, a manufacturer of solar-powered drones, for the same purpose - to provide access to the Internet from cheap and stand-alone devices, but Google made the decision faster and
got the company for an unnamed so far.
