Nissan and NASA are working to create a system of autonomous driving

The Japanese company Nissan and NASA announced the start of work on a common project . The goal of the project is to create a system for autonomous driving.

The project is designed for five years, and its result should be the emergence of commercial versions of robotic cars. According to Nissan representatives, the creation of such systems will lead to an increase in the reliability of the cars themselves, a decrease in traffic accidents, as well as a decrease in the amount of harmful substances emitted by cars (as a result of intelligent control of the modes of operation of the auto systems).

In this case, NASA experts will work on this project together with experts from Nissan. Work on the project will be conducted in Silicon Valley. Partners hope that the full-fledged results of the project will be presented by 2020 (we are talking about the launch of sales of ready-made systems). The first versions of the systems are being tested now. Partners note that Nissan will be able to use NASA technology for remote control of rovers, and NASA will receive from Nissan developments on how to optimize the movement of cars using computer systems in urban environments.

Toyota, Ford, Genetal Motors and Tesla are currently working on similar projects. In addition, the first versions of the robot-cars were shown by Google last year.
