In the Belotserkovsky correctional colony No. 35 in the Kiev region, prisoners will distribute
tablets with access to mobile communication networks and the Internet . Using the tablet you can talk on Skype, order products from online stores and even remotely get higher education.
In order not to violate the statutory restrictions on the use of the Internet and mobile communications in prisons and colonies, the prison service has developed special rules for the use of prison tablets. They will not go directly to the network, but through the servers of the Special Information and Communication System (SIX).
Next year, the program is planned to expand to another seven regions of Ukraine. It is assumed that such programs will not only help respect the rights of prisoners, but also reduce the number of relapses.
A similar program recently started in San Quentin Prison in California. There, prisoners
take remote programming courses . Prisoners work on older, decommissioned laptops with Ubuntu OS installed on them.
