The authors, whose works will be free January 1, 2015

Almost every year on January 1, activists for freedom of information and editors of Wikipedia have a holiday. They make in advance a list of authors, writers and artists, whose works from that day go into the public domain, in accordance with the expiration of the protection of related rights 70 (50) years after the death of the author.

Meet the "graduates" of 2015 .

The works of eight authors from the list were transferred to the public domain in countries with a protection period of 70 years (most European countries, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, etc.), that is, these authors died in 1944. The works of three more authors who died in 1964, went into the public domain in countries with a protection period of 50 years (Canada, New Zealand, many countries in Asia and Africa).

Edvard Munch


Norwegian painter and graphic artist, theater artist, art theorist. One of the first representatives of expressionism.

Edith Situwell


English poetess, prose writer, literary critic.

Pete Mondrian


The Netherlands artist, who simultaneously with Kandinsky and Malevich laid the foundation for abstract painting.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery


French writer and poet.

Rachel carson


American biologist, conservationist, writer.

Felix Nussbaum


German artist, representative of the artistic style. New objectivity.

Filippo Tommaso Marinetti


Italian writer, poet, founder of futurism. One of the founders of Italian fascism, worked closely with Mussolini, was wounded at Stalingrad.

Glenn miller


American trombonist, arranger, head of one of the best swing orchestras (late 1930s - early 1940s) - Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Ian Fleming


English writer, journalist and naval intelligence officer, author of a series of novels about James Bond, which are sold worldwide with a total circulation of more than 100 million copies.



As you can see, 2015 has significantly replenished the world fund of free works of art. Why are only James Bond with the Little Prince!

In addition to these authors, after 6 days, the works of Max Jacob, Marc Bloch, Ida Tarbell, Romain Rolland, Arthur Qwiller-Kuch, George Aid, and others are in the public domain.

PS In the United States, no work will not be released in the public domain until January 1, 2019 due to the recent extension of the copyright deadline to 95 years .
