One of the ideas expressed yesterday by disinvis in the comments to the news about the first finished car from Google :
Why then an individual car? Let him work for the benefit and, like a taxi, serves other customers. It would be possible to buy a subscription and a "guaranteed car call for 3 minutes."

The advantage of robotic taxis is that you do not need to have your own transport. Next year, in cooperation with MIT, a project will be launched, under which any company will be able to test autonomous cars in business districts of Singapore. MIT will have the opportunity to study the impact of cyclists and pedestrians on traffic. Ready-made models of unmanned vehicles will need a map , the development of which will also deal with scientists.

Singapore 's public transport includes rail, buses and taxis and plays an important role in transporting Singaporeans to work and study daily. According to the 2000 census, about 52.4% of the country's citizens (excluding foreigners) go to work by public transport; 41.5% of students go to school. These figures have slightly decreased compared with 1990, when they were respectively 55.0% and 46.3%. The government of the country strongly encourages the use of public transport, as well as struggling with the domination of personal transport. This happens with the help of prices. In 2012, the Toyota Camry cost 141,000 dollars, while in the USA this car could be purchased for 33,000 dollars. This is not counting the cost of obtaining a driver's license, which for 2012 amounted to 68,000 dollars.
