DARPA will develop a drone capable of maneuvering indoors at a speed of 20 m / s

DARPA placed an internal order for the development of drones using the new Fast Lightweight Autonomy (FLA) program, according to which drones of this class will have to have maneuverability comparable to the maneuverability of birds or insects during their quick flight, while at the same time doing without manual operator control.

The agency is considering a number of situations where the presence of FLA drones would be helpful.

Military groups in a combat area can, as a rule, only control the situation outside the premises, relying on the shooting made by the drone; if there was a possibility of conducting quick intelligence in a room, say, in large shopping centers, without danger to the unit’s personnel, and at the same time the size and speed of movement of the drone would allow it, if not to be invisible, then at least a little vulnerable, then the benefit from such a device would be obvious. That is why one of the requirements for the FLA-drone is that he should be able to get into the building through a normal window and still have a speed of 20 m / s - DARPA program manager Michael Misire directly compares the capabilities of the drone with the capabilities of flight and maneuverability birds or insects.

On the other hand, on the basis of exclusively peaceful purposes, the presence of an autonomous drone capable of independently bending around obstacles (debris or destruction caused by technological catastrophes or natural phenomena) without communication with the operator, without reference marks or without GPS, and at the same time driving a photo or video filming is hard to overestimate.

How exactly they see in the agency the possibilities of FLA drones can be viewed in the video below:
