TV channel "Rain" reports that, according to their sources, Facebook and Twitter have decided to abandon page locks in support of Alexei Navalny, even under the threat of total blockage in Russia.
Let me remind you that on Saturday, users
found that they could not go to the page of the event dedicated to entering the Manezhnaya Square of Moscow on the day of the announcement of the sentence in the Yves Rocher case to Alexei Navalny, due to be held on January 15, 2015. At the time of blocking, 12,000 people noted for the event, an invitation was sent to 30 thousand more.

')
The Prosecutor General’s Office demanded to block the event on the basis of the so-called “
Lugovoy ’s
law ”, which allows for pre-trial blocking of sites.
Then we
received news that the Prosecutor General’s Office was demanding that posts already be deleted on Twitter, Vkontakte
received 53 letters from Roskomnadzor , and LJ blocked Leonid Volkov’s
post about blocking the event’s page and its attitude towards shares coordination. There, in particular, it is explained that the event cannot be considered inconsistent on the simple basis that the deadline for submitting applications for the event begins only 15 days before it.
The response of users of social networks followed immediately: new pages of events started to be created right away,
the largest of which was marked by 24,000 people reaching - and another 89 thousand received invitations, and some users wrote that the discussion of this topic was heard in Facebook's Facebook office, which employs a sufficient number of Russian-speaking employees.
"Rain" confirmed this information:
A discussion of the current situation took place at the headquarters of the corporation in California, after which it was decided not to block all subsequent pages of Navalny’s supporters.
A similar decision was made by Twitter. Currently, the social network simply sends the received requests to delete / block tweets to users, but they do not plan to apply any sanctions to those who refuse to do so. As "Rain" reports, they are also ready for blocking on the territory of the Russian Federation.
In addition to Russia, Facebook
faced censorship by the authorities in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran, Mauritania, North Korea, Syria, and Tajikistan.
