Tesla will launch a charging station with a battery change next week

Last summer, Ilon Mask first showed the company's proposed fast charging solution for electric cars Tesla Model S. It was about instead of waiting for the battery to charge, the car would drive into a special station where the battery would automatically be replaced with a fully charged one within 90 seconds - that is, faster than a regular car would fill up with gasoline.

Yesterday, Tesla announced that such a station in pilot mode would be launched early next week not far from the existing station, where electric cars are charged in the usual way. The cost of the service to change the battery will be "slightly less" full refueling of the premium sedan with gasoline.

Although the announcement a year ago, the operation time for replacing the Tesla S battery was 90 seconds, in reality, the time has changed in a big way - about three minutes. This difficulty is related to a number of last year's incidents with the safety of an electric vehicle, when due to the ignition of batteries from strikes of objects on the ground, the company was forced to strengthen the protection of the battery compartment (it is located under the car bottom) with titanium plates and aluminum chippers.

The station will work in test mode and according to the results of its work, it is alleged that the time of the battery replacement operation may be even less than a minute.
