New "Civilization" under Linux will be released today at 21:00 MSK

Aspyr Media announced the date and time when it will publish in open access the Linux port of the latest version of Civilization - Civilization: Beyond Earth.

The release of the game, which continues the cult series of strategic games, will take place today, December 18, 2014, at 21:00 Moscow time.

Aspyr Media has been working on porting a game under Linux for the past few months and has faced a number of problems , mainly because of the Linux GPU drivers.

Initially, the developers even wanted to abandon support for AMD and Intel graphics processors under Linux , but then they changed their mind and returned support for these drivers .

As mentioned earlier, the game is more like a sequel to “Alpha Centauri Sid Meier”, than to “Civilization”. The fact is that the rights to the name “Alpha Centauri” belong to Electronic Arts, therefore they used the well-known name “Civilization”. The action takes place in outer space, and in the game there are many elements familiar to fans of the series.
